With the general election fast approaching, the party leaders have promised much in the way of housing opportunities, with the main priority being First Time Buyers joining the first rung of the housing ladder. The Labour Party have said that local residents are entitled to ‘first dibs’ on any new properties available in their areas, along with being stamp duty exempt (purchase up to £300,000)
In the blue corner, the Conservatives are planning to continue with their Help to Buy scheme and allow housing association tenants the right to buy their properties. They have also pledged that First Time Buyers can buy a brand new ‘starter home’ at 20% discounted price.
It seems that the housing shortage in Britain is paving the way for what could be some interesting new policies arising in government over the next 5 years.
